A return to Venice being excluded because of the illness of his wife, he had to work from   memory in his workshop. The paintings of the official monuments or the Large Channel include a sky, but the others, are limited to the frontages of the palaces and their reflection in the water. He finished this series only in 1912.
In 1912 he obtained a great success at the Bernheim-Young Gallery in a  show devoted to Venice .
